How does the commission and pricing model work for travel agents?
We operate on a nett rate model. You receive wholesale nett rates and set your own retail price. Your markup IS your commission — you keep 100% of the difference between our nett rate and your selling price. For example: If our nett rate is $1,299 and you sell at $1,799, you keep $500 per person. There are no fixed commission percentages — your earning potential is entirely in your hands.
What commission percentage can I expect as a travel agent?
Since you set your own retail price, your effective commission depends on your markup. Most agents achieve 20-35% margins (effectively their commission) on our nett rates. Example: Nett rate $1,299, sell at $1,799 = $500 per person = 28% effective commission. You can price competitively and still earn excellent margins because our nett rates are genuinely wholesale.
How are nett rates determined? Do they vary by destination?
Nett rates are based on our contracted supplier rates plus our small DMC margin. Rates vary by destination, season, and hotel category. We publish suggested retail prices for reference, but you're free to sell at any price above the nett rate. Higher-volume partners unlock even better nett rates across all destinations.
How do I qualify for better nett rates (higher volume tiers)?
Nett rate tiers are based on annual passenger volume: Standard (0-25 pax/year): Base nett rates. Growing (25-50 pax/year): 3-5% better nett rates + priority support. Premium (50-100 pax/year): Best standard rates + account manager. VIP (100+ pax/year): Lowest rates + custom terms. Volume is calculated on a calendar year (Jan-Dec). Tier upgrades are automatic when you hit thresholds.
Are there seasonal variations in nett rates?
Yes, nett rates vary by season: Peak season (Jun-Aug, Dec-Jan): Standard nett rates. Shoulder season (Apr-May, Sep-Oct): Typically 5-10% lower nett rates — better margins for you. Off-season: Lowest nett rates — highest margin potential. Iceland Northern Lights season (Sep-Mar) is peak for Iceland but offers excellent margins due to high client demand. We flag the best margin opportunities in our partner newsletter.
What is the difference between nett rates and retail prices?
Nett rate: The wholesale price you pay us. This is your cost. Retail/selling price: What you charge your client. This is your decision. Your earnings (commission): Retail price minus nett rate. You keep 100% of this difference. We provide suggested retail prices for reference, but you are free to price as you see fit. Most agents mark up 20-35% above nett rates.
Do nett rates vary for group bookings vs FIT?
Yes! Group bookings (10+ passengers, same itinerary) typically receive better nett rates: 10-19 passengers: 5-8% better nett rates than FIT. 20-29 passengers: 8-12% better nett rates. 30+ passengers: 12-15% better nett rates. MICE groups: Custom nett rates based on requirements. Better nett rates = higher margins for you when selling at similar retail prices.
How are nett rates handled for FIT custom packages?
FIT (custom) packages are built from component-level nett pricing. You see the nett rate for each component: hotels, tours, transfers, guides, activities. This lets you build custom packages and decide your markup on each element. Typical FIT margins: 20-35% overall depending on components selected. Complex itineraries (15+ days, multiple countries) may qualify for additional discounts on the total package.
Do I earn on optional add-ons and extras?
Yes! All add-ons are offered at nett rates. You set the retail price and keep the full markup on: Hotels (upgrades, extra nights), Tours & activities, Transfers (upgrades to private), Guides (language-specific), Attraction tickets, Special experiences (dining, spa, etc.). Upselling extras is pure profit — we encourage it. Example: Nett $50 Northern Lights tour → sell at $85 = $35 profit per person.
What happens with repeat bookings? Do I get better rates?
Repeat bookings contribute to your annual volume, which unlocks better tier rates. Additionally: Same client booking 3+ trips in 2 years: You may receive a loyalty bonus of 2-3% better nett rates on the 3rd booking. Your tier status carries over year to year (we don't demote active partners). Consistent booking patterns help us negotiate even better supplier rates, which we pass on.
How do volume incentives work for high-performing agents?
Beyond better nett rates, volume incentives include: Quarterly bonuses at 50+ pax, annual bonuses at 200+ pax. FAM trip invitations for top-performing partners. Priority access to new destination launches. Co-marketing opportunities with shared costs. These are in addition to the margin you earn on every booking.
Can I negotiate custom nett rates?
Yes, for high-volume agents: Commit to 100+ pax annually: Negotiate custom nett rates across all destinations. Commit to 200+ pax: Custom payment schedules, even better rates. Destination specialist: If you focus on one destination, negotiate specialty rates. MICE specialist: Custom rates for corporate group series. Contact our B2B partnerships team: tours@igholidaz.com
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment options: Bank transfer/Wire (preferred — no fees): Wire instructions provided in portal. PayPal: Available for international agents. Credit card: Visa, Mastercard, Amex (3% processing fee). Indian agents: NEFT/RTGS in INR directly to Indian bank accounts. UK agents: UK bank transfer in GBP. US agents: Wire or PayPal in USD. Payment notification sent via email with booking breakdown.
What happens if a booking is cancelled?
Cancellation policy: Full cancellation (100% refund to client): You receive full refund of your payment. Partial cancellation: Proportional refund. Client no-show: No refund (suppliers were paid). Standard cancellation penalties apply based on timing. Since you pay nett rates (not commission-based), refunds are straightforward — you get back what you paid, minus applicable penalties.
How can I track my bookings and earnings?
Agent portal dashboard shows: Active bookings and their status. Total spend and savings vs retail. Suggested retail prices for reference. Your volume tier and progress to next tier. Booking history. Next payment date. Export to CSV/Excel for accounting. Updated in real-time.
